Child marriage around the world
What the published figures show about marriage age in 217 countries, and which indicators sit alongside them.
Marriage before the age of eighteen is measured and reported by the World Bank for a large share of countries, and it is one of the clearest places where a country's statistics and a family's circumstances meet. What follows is what the data says, with the year of every observation attached.
Fertility rate
A higher value means more births per woman over a lifetime. 217 Countries reporting this indicator.
Among the 217 countries reporting fertility rate, the figure runs from 0.58 (Macao SAR, China, 2024) to 6.03 (Chad, 2024), with a median of 1.90. The middle half of the countries fall between 1.24 and 4.12.

Secondary school enrolment
A gross rate: everyone enrolled in secondary school, whatever their age, as a share of the official age group — so a figure above 100% means students outside the usual age range are counted too. 179 Countries reporting this indicator.
Among the 179 countries reporting secondary school enrolment, the figure runs from 3.3% (Somalia, Fed. Rep., 2023) to 158.5% (Monaco, 2024), with a median of 92.4%. The middle half of the countries fall between 46.9% and 118.7%.

About these figures
Every number on this page comes from the World Bank Open Data, with the year it was observed attached. World Bank data is released under CC BY 4.0 Retrieved 2026-11-01.
Marriage age statistics are reported for fewer countries than the demographic indicators, and the years differ between them.
This page describes the shape of the data. It does not rank countries against each other, and it says nothing about the people who live in them — a low figure is a fact about conditions and about what the source reports, not a verdict on a population. Our editorial standard.
See it as a life
These figures are what the simulation runs on. Start a life in any of the 217 countries and watch the years play out.
